This place was so impressive that it's probably going to be the only solo food post from my HK trip.
What better way to start off your day in HK than by stuffing your face full of dim sum, two days in a row. And not just any dim sum, no, we're talking about a Michelin-starred restaurant that's supposed to be the cheapest of its kind in the world.
Meet the famous Tim Ho Wan! The restaurant, not the person of course.
Besides their awesome dim sum, this place is also famous for their min 30-min queues. Thankfully we were not subjected to any queues the both times we visited. Although we did strategize beforehand on what time would be best to avoid having to stand outside with rumbling tummies. Went around 10.30am on both visits, and I think we got lucky by missing the mad morning rush.
Here a ranking of my faves from an unforgettable dim sum sesh on the first round:
1. Pork Buns
Sooo good! These slightly sweet buns are baked, making them crispy. Nothing like the steamed ones we have back home that are soft. The pork filling was really tasty too. Easily a must-order from the menu. Each order comes with 3 buns and we sure as hell didn't settle for just one order.
2. BBQ Pork Rice Rolls
Bbq pork filling wrapped inside a rice roll with some veggies. Came together really nicely. Comes lying on a bed of soy sauce. Protip: Add some chili oil and it instantly changes the game (if you into spicy stuff that is).
3. Pork Meatballs
Meatballs made from pork. It really doesn't get better than that. Succulent and well-flavoured.
4. Chicken & Veggies in Beancurd Skin
Despite sounding somewhat ordinary, I really dug the taste of these beancurd wraps. Not sure what flavours went into the filling, but they definitely did something right.
We actually ordered quite a few more dishes, but I was too busy eating to take more pics. The meal was so good that we went back for seconds the next morning at the outlet in IFC Mall before heading to the airport.
I also wasn't kidding about how affordable this place is. Both meals cost us between HKD100-130 each time. Good luck finding that in KL.
