A few weekends back, I had a full blown case of the sweet-tooth fever. The kind where you suddenly forget about counting calories and nothing in the world matters except stuffing your face with sweet bliss and a whole lot of carbs. Mmmmmm.
The Bread Shop, a quaint little bakery/cafe tucked away in the Damansara Heights neighborhood sells a nice selection of sweet and savoury pastries and freshly-baked bread. I wolfed-down tried their Salted-Caramel Chocolate Tart a few months back and it was stellar! This time I picked out the Peanut Butter Chocolate Tart and Pecan Tart at RM6.80 a pop.
Peanut Butter Chocolate - Overall a tasty tart to sink your teeth into with that soft, crumbly pastry. However, I did find myself wanting a little more peanut butter power, possibly inside the tart? The flavor from that tiny dollop on the top sometimes got lost in all that rich chocolate.
Pecan - This tart tasted like a dream. The pastry was slightly firmer, which was perfectly alright because the tart was filled with a delicious caramel-tasting custard topped with generous chunks of pecan, and drizzled with a wondrous caramel glaze. Perfection.

Next up on my weekend of sweet trails led me to Thirdwave at Nexus, Bangsar South. This coffee joint is run by four siblings, and I usually pop by for their coffee and cakes, which happen to be consistently great.
To replace their existing menu of limited items, they recently launched an all-day dining menu with a little section of Sweet Things. Bring on the brunch-time sugar...
Mmmmm, who doesn't love pancakes? They can be easy to screw-up though. Luckily this wasn't the case at Thirdwave. Their Blueberry Pancakes (RM16) are made with buttermilk, making them light and fluffy. Perfectly round, they come stacked with fresh blueberries in-between, dusted with powdered sugar, and served with a little pot of maple syrup on the side for you to drench those pancakes in, to your heart's content.
Being a big waffle fan, I was super stoked to see it on a menu and ordered their Flourish Waffle (RM19). So far, most places in KL have successfully ruined waffles for me and the last place I had a really good waffle with that perfect light and crispy texture was at the Green Waffle Diner in Hong Kong. Although these weren't as good, they were pretty darn close. Being a dessert waffle, the dough was a little on the sweet side, but hey, no complaints from me.
The Flourish Waffle is served with whatever fresh fruit that's available in-house (the second time I went back for it, they served it with mangoes and blueberries). To top it off, they place generous scoops of really flavorful vanilla ice-cream. You can actually see vanilla bean specks in the ice-cream - a telling sign that this is the good stuff. They also scattered bits of flowers on the waffle, making it look all pretty for that instagram shot - it's certainly doesn't contribute to taste :P
