Ever since we passed by Buns during our brunch escapade from the previous weekend, Jon has been wanting to check it out - this burger joint seemed so promising from the outside and we were eager to see if the food inside lived up to it's chic exterior.

Apart from getting your burger fix, you can also indulge in craft beers, tapas and desserts at this place - a rather well-rounded effort for a burger joint.
This place reminded me so much of cafes in Hong Kong. Simplistic and sophisticated. Wooden furniture, cemented floors and brick walls with lots of warm lighting sets you up for laid-back dining experience.
Besides craft beers and soft drinks, their drink menu includes hand-shaken teas, fruit-flavoured sodas, coffee and fruit juices. I opted for a Raspberry Soda - which supposedly contains 55% real fruit. Refreshingly tasty and not too sweet and with a bunch of raspberry seeds at the bottom of the glass.

Stoked from the fact they stocked craft beer, Jon went with a Mountain Goat, a hand-crafted Australian ale and one of the two varieties they had in stock that evening. Apparently they've partnered up with Taps to serve their craft beers and will be serving up more varieties in the near future.

Who doesn't love tapas or small plates as they call them here. Buns has a decent amount to choose from. We picked two interesting-sounding dishes. The first was Corn Tempura sprinkled with paprika. Although it had a nice crispiness on the outside, the inside was slightly disappointing - the corn bits were a little bit hard and chewy.

Next, we had Potato Mozzarella Croquettes. Deep-fried doughy balls filled with potatoes, mozzarella and a hint of raspberries. Comes with a creamy raspberry dipping sauce.

I actually thought this was more of a dessert at first until I realized they were stuffed with potatoes. Loved them! Proceed with caution though, they're hot hot hot and can take awhile to cool down.

Onto the main show.. We decided to split between two burgers. The first one was their basic beef burger. Freshly ground beef with iceberg lettuce, tomatoes, caramelized onions and melted cheese in a wholewheat bun. We upgraded from basic fries to sweet potato ones for RM2.

Verdict: Awesome awesome stuff. The patty was nicely seasoned and biting into the burger made for a satisfying affair. The sweet potato fries were delicious addition as well. Definitely worth the upgrade. A slight tip: Be prepared to have your burger closer to the rare side if you order medium-rare. Will probably ask for it to be well-done the next time. Not quite a fan of rare meat, but I wolfed my half of the burger in almost an instant.
Burger number two was a little more on the adventurous side. The 'S.E.A' houses a lemongrass-infused patty with fish sauce, coriander, sambal mayo, carrot, daikon raddish and cucumber in a wholewheat bun. Doesn't that whole line-up of random ingredients sound so intriguing?
S.E.A. (RM17) |
Verdict: I'm calling this the tom yum burger because that was the first feels that hit my tongue when I bit into this slightly spicy burger. Loved how all the odd Asian ingredients came together in one bite.
They've got some wacky desserts to choose from if your sweeth tooth is calling. Too bad we were too stuffed by the end of the meal. That chocolate-durian cake does sound like a combo worth trying.
